Hmm, I hate the patriot act, but not sure that's the number one priority right now. I also hate the DMCA too, but if Obama needs to spend political capital on something, i think heathcare and energy policy will affect more Americans positively. Show some success on those issues (and the economy), and Obama can do anything he wants with a broad, enduring mandate the lobbyists can't oppose.

I think the real issue is that government has very little direct impact on the economy. A 'stimulus package' ore similar would be a drop in the bucket compared to what we need. I think instead a focus on programs like energy independence and healthcare reform could kill 2 birds by reducing consumer costs and increasing the numbers of jobs (and adding more money to consumer's pockets).

The economy is number 1, but of the big 3 after that (Iraq, Healthcare, Energy Policy) I see health care reform with the biggest potential near-term economic benefit for every American. Address healthcare , and you restore money and remove fear from the engine of our economy: consumers.

I completely agree. President-elect Obama has built an amazing community during his campaign, which could be a powerful force to help inform and power his mandate during the upcoming term and severe challenges ahead. It would be a tragedy to leave this potential untapped and the dream of a more transparent and responsive government unrealized.
