China and Japan greatly surpass the United States in funding for stem cell research. This cutting edge science is already showing promise in areas as diverse as limb and organ generation, treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes, and reconstruction of parts of the human nervous system. It is a tragedy that the United States has fallen behind in this area.
