The New Energy Deal
The New Energy Deal would be designed with two goals in mind -- U.S. energy independence and to stimulate the economy with new energy related jobs. Energy independence and new job creation would come from the construction on nuclear plants, new drilling off shore, Wind turbine creation, clean coal, and as a result of plugin hybrid technology being embraced. The U.S. would be investing in our future with an energy infrastructure overall. We shouldn't wait until oil is over $100 a barrel again -- when we can take steps today to become energy independent. GM should have assistance to upgrade the majority of their cars and trucks to plug-in hybrid technology. Imagine if GM cars and trucks were battery-only for the first 40 miles and then hybrid thereafter...? Talk about a radical step to energy independence... some commutes would never require gas. Let's keep and create new jobs with this energy plan. Let's stop sending our money to nations that very aren't fond of us... let's get serious about energy independence before the price of oil becomes outrageous again.

I believe this to be quite important. How many jobs could we create if we created and maintained the best batteries in the world? The world over would buy batteries from the US to propel their cars. New technologies for better batteries would be better for the environment. Take back what the boomers threw away.
