End the Federal Death Penalty
Please stop all federal executions and place a moratorium on federal prosecutions that seek the death penalty pending an independent study of the death penalty system that examines racial disparities, prejudicial errors, adequacy of legal representation, and other inequities in capital prosecutions.

Make all insurance and medical costs pre-tax
If you don't get your Health Insurance from your employer, you pay in post-tax funds. If you do, it's pre-tax.
A simple way to help people out would be to make all insurance and medical expenses to be deductible from your gross income regardless of whether it's self-insured or employer-insured.

One bill, One purpose
Amend the constitution, or set a presidential policy for one bill, one purpose. So many pork projects and wasteful spending items get tacked onto other important bills to garner support.
One bill, one purpose means exactly what it says. If you're going to have an education funding bill, there shouldn't be military spending in it. If you're going to pass a security bill, there shouldn't be funds for a museum in Iowa in it.
If something can't pass on its own, it shouldn't pass. Period.

With all the unelected officials having much of the power in the US, it's critical there is real accountability regarding the decisions they make. Don't let the government be a job for life - pay people well, respect their views and hold them accountable for their decisions.

The New Energy Deal
The New Energy Deal would be designed with two goals in mind -- U.S. energy independence and to stimulate the economy with new energy related jobs. Energy independence and new job creation would come from the construction on nuclear plants, new drilling off shore, Wind turbine creation, clean coal, and as a result of plugin hybrid technology being embraced. The U.S. would be investing in our future with an energy infrastructure overall. We shouldn't wait until oil is over $100 a barrel again -- when we can take steps today to become energy independent. The administration needs to keep using Twitter. They should at least connect the change.gov feed to their twitter account. Simple enough.

Explain how you are going to pay for all of your plans
There is no way Obama can pay for all of the "change" he has promised without totally destroying our financial system.

open dialogue with Americans and foreigners, like this!!
I am South African. In my opinion, one of the big problems of the previous ruling party was a 'disconnect' from the world's voices. More than that, it was the pursuit of an agenda that differs from the people that it serves. This happens here in South Africa as well, so its not unique.
My suggestion (as outsider affected indirectly) would be to create mechanisms for listening, and tools for responding and feedback. Clear, simple ones... like this one!! This will earn USA the global respect it so richly deserves...

Protect our soldiers from rape and sexual assault
The military has taken a permissive attitude towards sexual assault and rape of soldiers that has led to a startling increase in reported cases since the beginning of the Iraq war. Further, many soldiers traumatized by rape are then chaptered out of the military under the adverse chapter 13 "personality disorder" chapter. There are literally THOUSANDS of women being thrown away by the military for demanding medical or psychological care, demanding justice for their perpetrators, or demanding a safe environment on bases in the US and abroad. Budget Reform - there's no reason for our ridiculous debt
We cannot continue to believe that we have an endless supply of funding for all of the things we try to do. The national debt is not just a number, it represents the reality that our leaders and we as a nation are not at all financially responsible. We have a few options - raise taxes, do less, or actually reform the budget to cut down on the rampant misappropriation of the money we do have.

Appoint entrepreneurs to the Economic Advisory Board.
A number of well known and highly respected business leaders and academics have been appointed to Obama’s Transition Economic Advisory Board, none of them has any practical experience in starting or growing a new business in the current economic clime.
President Elect Obama should both seek and have the input of people like those whose businesses will provide the catalyst for turning this recession around.
